Springfield Student Graduates with 100% Attendance

by Jess Quandel

Talanna Sloan always wanted to be a cosmetologist. She realized she had a passion for it when she was in the fifth grade and started doing hair for friends and family.

That passion brought her to Empire Beauty School in Springfield, PA where she immediately put her love of beauty to work.

Her motivation to achieve 100% attendance was because she wanted to finish this program in the quickest time possible.

She was so focused.” says Heather Moffitt, Executive Director. “She said she wanted to get through school and start working as soon as possible.

Talanna was working 2 jobs while attending Empire full time. She worked in a salon on the weekends, and during the week would leave school at 4:30 and go right to a local pharmacy and work until 11pm as a technician.

She lives in Philadelphia where parking is hard to come by. “She would get home at 12am and have to walk 4 blocks every night just to get to her home. She still got up everyday on time to make it to school at 9am.” says Moffitt.

Talanna also says the $1000 Good Attendance Scholarship was a motivating factor for her. She is currently a stylist at Ebony Jewel Hair salon in Lansdowne, PA and has recently been presented with other opportunities.

Congratulations Talanna on your perfect attendance and the beginning of a new journey!
