Spring Into Accessories

by Megan Murray

What a winter we have had! Record low temps, sleet, snow, and freezing rain punished much of the nation. Everybody is ready for sunny days, flowers, and fresh air.

While it is a little early to break out the warm weather gear, you can put a little “Spring” in your look with next season’s must-have accessories.

Here are the top five ways to accessorize for Spring 2018:

1.) Swing from the Chandeliers – That’s right, chandelier earrings are back. Forget about subtle and delicate, this time around, these earrings are bigger and have more sparkle than ever. Both Yves Saint Laurent and Dolce and Gabbana showed shoulder grazing rhinestone stunners. With this fashion trend, more is more. Don’t be afraid to add a rhinestone headband or choker and be the queen of all you survey.

2.) Have a Blast with Bags – This year, “ it” bags kind of look like fourth-grade art projects.  Statements bags are back and they are bold, whimsical, and daring. Even the iconic Prada bags are splashed with flowers and graffiti prints. Remember, if it doesn’t go with anything, it goes with everything. Don’t be afraid to get a little loud with your look!

3.) Wear Boots Made for Walking – I know your toes have been stuck inside a boot all winter, but this spring, boots are still the hot style. Unlike their stuffy winter counterparts, low-heeled boots for warmer temps are more structural, colorful, and heavily embellished. For an extra level of chic, add must-have fishnet ankle socks.

4.) Make It Clear – While Ultra Violet is Pantone’s Color of the Year; transparent is the thing for spring. Designers used transparent plastics to make shoes, belts, purses, jewelry, and trenches.  Who knew that your junior high backpack would take on a fashionable new life?

5.) Belt It Out –The hottest, and easiest, trend to embrace is the belt. From corsets to scarves tied around the waist, the belted silhouette was all over the Spring 2018 runways. Belts are also a great way to refresh a wardrobe without breaking the bank.

Accessories are a fun, inexpensive way to update your look. Trendy items can be found at any price point, and a great piece of jewelry or a new bag can make basic pieces look modern and fresh.
