How to stay up on TRENDS and TECHNIQUES in the Beauty Industry

by Empire Beauty School

Education never stops in the Beauty Industry.
What most beauty school students don’t realize is that once you are done school, graduated and even get your state license – the learning doesn’t stop there. This industry is constantly changing with new trends, techniques, products, updated new appliances so you have to be committed to staying ahead of those things. If someone brings you a picture out of a magazine of a new popular trend, you better be able to create that look, otherwise you will lose your clients.

So how do you stay educated and ahead of the trends?

Hands on Training

Tip #1

Advanced Education Classes– if there is ever an opportunity for you to attend any kind of advanced education classes, take them. Some advanced classes offer certification once you complete the course. Being certified in a special skill will make you more marketable to gain a bigger clientele and also help increase your income. Just think about it…if you wanted to get your hair colored and you had a choice to go to someone who just kept on doing the same type o f basic color method or someone who was certified in a new color technique, who would you choose?

Tip #2

DVD’S– if you don’t get the chance to attend advanced education classes where you will learn hands on, purchase new trend release DVD’s. Most companies and programs offer these type of DVD’s where they will demonstrate step by step how to do a particular technique or use a certain product.

Tip #3

Magazines & Social Media– Reading magazines, blogs, websites, and following your favorite artist, product, manufacture or company on Facebook will also help you to stay up on trends and events going on with in the beauty industry.  You will also see what trend is growing and what is being phased out.  Fashion and Beauty go hand in hand and following the celebrities and their fashion trends will also help you to stay on top.

“The important thing is not being afraid to take a chance. Remember, the greatest failure is to not try. Once you find something you love to do, be the best at doing it.” – Debbi Fields, founder of Mrs. Fields Cookies
