Some people will tell you it is too hot to wear make-up.
Those people are wrong.
Summer is the perfect time to experiment with new colors, textures, and techniques.
Here are the hottest makeup trends for summer of 2015.
Strobing is contouring’s perky little sister. Instead of using a darker powder to recede what you don’t want people to see, use a highlighting product to bring your best features forward. Use a highlighting powder (better for oily skins) or moisturizer (kinder to dry skins) on all the places on your face that catch light. Make sure you hit your cheekbones, below your brow bone, in the corner of your eyes, and above your cupid’s bow. This look can go “oily mess” fast, so use your product sparingly and blend! blend! blend! (Did I mention to blend?) Now, since you want your bone structure to take center stage, make sure that the rest of your make-up is matte or satin. A little shimmer goes a long way.
From a dazzling aqua to a smokey green, colored eyeliner was made for summer looks. Eyeliner in a non-traditional color is a quick and easy way to add polish to your look on those days when you feel a little melty. White eyeliner is making a comeback, and it is a great way to show off your summer color (wear sunblock) while staying on-trend. To push your chicness to the limit, pair your white liner with white nail colors on tips and toes.
Pastel eye shadow looks fresh on a summer evening. Pastel pinks, blues, purples, and violets are an easy way to evoke the feel of mermaid hair, without the commitment of bleach and permanent color. Look for eye shadow textures that are creamy and smooth because if pastels look chalky, they are aging. For the prettiest pastel looks, make sure you use a white-eye pencil as an eye shadow base.
The hottest trend in lipstick this summer is the matte lip. Unlike the heavy mattes of the past, the summer matte is vivid and lightweight. The new lipstick formulations are a great way to try bright colors, as they tend to be long wearing. Just remember to keep your lips in good shape. Peeling lips look awful in mattes!
My personal favorite! A little pat of gold eye glitter can take your look from beach to the dance floor with ease! For a more sparkling look, add a few star shaped glitter pieces to the tops of your cheekbones. Just make sure your glitter is eye safe, and keep the rest of your face clean for day. For nighttime looks, all bets are off!
Don’t neglect your bottom lashes this sultry season. The Twiggy look is in, but the dramatic false lash may be a bit too much for the dog days. By generously coating the bottom of your lashes with mascara, you can get the look of the swinging sixties. Just make sure your mascara is transfer proof, or you will look really, really sad.
So this summer, don’t let the heat and humidity stop you from putting your best face forward! Just remember to keep it bright, sparkling, and breezy, and you will be right on-trend!
