Styling hair and doing makeup for runway models is pretty much on every future cosmetologists bucket list.
Well, a room full of Empire students and recent grads can call it done, as they lend their fresh skills to clothing and accessory designers at NY Fashion Week.
One of the events, was the ICU Network Spring Show, featuring several designers including high-end sunglass brand, Yeroc by Cory Woods.
Nearly all hair and makeup was done by Empire students and graduates.
“The fashion industry provides a lot of opportunity for our students.” says Angela Jordan, Career Services Manager at Empire Beauty School in Manhattan. “Providing students with this exposure leads to opportunities down the road for most of them. The show organizers are always impressed with our students
talent and work ethic.”
For some of our students this was their first show. For others it wasn’t the first , but rather, an opportunity to lead the group. “Through my educators at Empire I was able to do a show for ICU Network while I was still in school.” Says recent Empire graduate Westley, known in the industry as “Dash.” “I worked really hard at that show. I was doing hair faster than everyone else. The show organizers were so impressed, they brought me back for several events. Tonight I am lead stylist for the show.”
And for Dash, that first opportunity is what he hopes to give back to fellow Empire alumni and students. “I always go back to Empire to find assistants who want to help with shows. It is a foot in the door of a very large industry. You never know who you are going to meet and where it will take you.”
