5 Ways to use Pantone’s Spring 2015 Color Story in your Business Routine

by Megan Murray

Happy autumn! It’s time to break out your sweaters, zip up your boots, darken your make-up, amp up your skin care, and start thinking about…SPRING!  Fashion is always forward, and this spring’s color trends are here thanks to Pantone.

Every year, in conjunction with Spring Fashion Shows, Pantone gives us a glimpse into the color scheme for next year’s beauty and fashion. This year’s collection is called En Plein Air.

Leatrice Eiseman Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute explains, “Many feel compelled to be connected around the clock because we are afraid we’ll miss something important. There is a growing movement to step out and create ‘quiet zones’ to disconnect from technology and unwind, giving ourselves time to stop and be still. Color choices follow the same minimalistic, ‘en plein air’ theme, taking a cue from nature rather than being reinvented or mechanically manipulated. Soft, cool hues blend with subtle warm tones to create a soothing escape from the everyday hustle and bustle.”

Dreamy aquamarines, toasted almonds, classic blues, and sumptuous wines evoke the feeling of a tapestry in a fairy tale castle (or a certain fictional country called…WESTEROS). While cheerful tangerine, scuba blue, and custard harken back to the mod 60’s.  Unlike 2014’s mixes of reds and orchids, 2015’s colors call for harmonious blends and tone on tone patterns.

Here are 5 great ways to use the colors in Pantone’s Spring 2015 Color Story in your beauty routine.

1.  Eyeliner

Graphic eyeliner continues to be an important beauty trend.  Use Aquamarine or Bold Blue under the water line to brighten eyes. This daring dash of color is an easy way to make an every day beauty look fresh.

2.  The Minimal Look

The “no makeup” beauty look dominated the runways. (Now, we all know that master artists carefully craft these looks with subtle color, contour, and highlight. ) So, give Mother Nature a hand with delicately flushed cheeks and stained lips in Strawberry Ice.

3.  The “New Neutral”

Glacier Gray is the new neutral. This icy color is perfect for a chic nail or a delicate eye shadow look.  While this hue stands strong on its own, it is also a great background for more vivid colors.  For the color phobic, Glacier Gray is an easy way to update your look without going Technicolor.

4.  Matching Lips and Tips

Matching lipstick and nail polish was a hot look at the Zac Posen show.  While this trend is ladylike in red, it is modern and edgy in Tangerine.

5.  Matte Statement Lipstick

Marsala’s subdued wine is the perfect color for a matte statement lip. This color is strong without being overwhelming, and it is universally flattering.
Later in the year, one of these colors will be chosen as the color of 2015. Which color do you think will be chosen to embody the hopes and dreams of next year? How will you incorporate these new colors into your wardrobe and beauty routine? How do you think these colors will affect hair color trends?
