4 Top Beauty Trends for 2016
In 2015 hair went pastel, lips went matte, and nails could kill (seriously, those pointy nails were a hazard). 2016 promises to be just as fun.
Here are some trends to look out for in the upcoming year:
DNA Skin Care
Science fiction is now science fact. By testing your DNA, dermatologists and beauty professionals can tell how and when your skin will age. While the information may be a little cringe inducing, knowledge is power. Knowing your DNA profile will help you create a skin care and supplement regimen that will target your specific needs. While the initial testing may be costly, DNA skin care could eventually save customers a lifetime of trial and error and give beauty professionals the power to make recommendations that get results.
Dewy Skin
Designers like Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schuler were showing dewy, almost glossy, foundation for their Spring 2016 runway looks. While the oily-skinned among us are gasping (I can hear you) at the idea, the look is actually an easy take on the strobing make-up technique. For the runway, artists used a dab of Vaseline on the cheekbones and on the chin. For the rest of us, there are lots of great sprays and serums to top your foundation. This fresh make-up finish is a great way to brighten your look without a lot of work.
Speaking of technique…let’s make 2016 the year that we remind ourselves that contouring is a privilege, not a right.
Red Hair
Bronde was the color of the moment, but this year, expect brilliant reds to come blazing back. A hair color they are already dubbing “Ronze” is a red and bronze- brown shade that is flattering for almost every skin tone. If you aren’t ready for the commitment and upkeep that red hair color brings, techniques like baby lights and bayalage are the perfect way to add a little ginger spice to your look. For the more adventurous, Fire Hair is the new hair color goal. An ombre that blends red, orange, and yellow is this year’s answer to last year’s watery locks.
Pantone 2016 Colors of the Year:
Rose Quartz and Serenity –For the first time, Pantone chose 2 colors for their colors of the year. Rose Quartz is a gentle pink, and Serenity is a tranquil blue. Now, Pantone, Inc. is undoubtedly the authority on color, but sometimes the colors are more a suggestion rather than a trend…I am looking at you, Marsala. 2016’s colors, however, are destined to dominate beauty and fashion. From Dip-Dyed hair color to soft pastel pouts, there is nothing these colors can’t do.
