Shelter Receives Donation from Queens School
The Queens, NY, Empire Beauty School donated $734 to the Allen Women’s Resource Center during their 100 Days of Empire open house event. Representatives from the shelter were on hand to accept the funds and talk
to students, staff and guests about domestic abuse. The students also performed free beauty services and offered up tours of the school to potential beauty students. Welcomed guests were also entertained by two live bands during the evening as the students continued the celebration. The students also held a bake sale
with items that students made with all proceeds towards the school’s Future Professionals Expo fund. Prizes and raffled baskets with hair care products
were also given out. Students and staff also hosted their version of American
Idol with Empire Idol. Students competed in hair and fashion rather than singing. The themes for the competitions were: a Runway Fashion Show with a red carpet, life-sized mannequins, and a student make-up artist, another theme was Disney,
complete with mannequins as popular Disney movie characters such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Tinker Bell, Aladdin and many more. Other
themes included Jungle with a relaxing waterfall and jungle music playing. All the mannequins were created with a jungle theme in mind, and there was also a
small pool filled with water and live goldfish.
