NY School Brings Christmas Cheer to Local Shelter!
The staff and students from the Queens, NY Empire Beauty School brought a s little Christmas spirit and holiday cheer to several families in need by donating toys, food, and clothing, which were delivered to an abused women’s shelter in the New York area.
Kim Garcia, Career Planning Specialist, initiated the event through a contact at the shelter. She quickly got the ball rolling with help from Noemi Ramos and Rosa Raff, both Career Planning Specialists, by building collection boxes, making signs for the event and talking with the students.
“I was impressed by the generosity of the students and staff. They really came through in a big way,” said Executive Director Steve Haines. “This was a total team effort between the staff and students,” he added.
Due to the circumstances of the shelter, Haines and his staff were unable to meet the residents or the children who received the donated items. Haines and his staff also offered the director of the shelter free haircut coupons for the residents. “This was just one small way we can help those who deserve it during this time of year,” added Haines.
