Manhattan Makeup Program and Career Fair Highlight March
The Manhattan Empire Beauty School hosted Orlando Santiago’s advanced make-up program at the campus, as well as a recent career fair for the students during March.
Santiago, the Director of Makeup program at the Manhattan school and successful makeup artist in New York, led a program highlighting makeup application in a Fashion and Glamour class. He discussed color intensity techniques. The students applied their incredible compliments of color.
The school also invited recent Empire graduates and current students to participate in the school’s career fair, which brought 15 future employers from several local salons in New York. Proving Cosmetology is a recession-proof career, all of the salons accepted resumes and initiated interviews with many of the students. The event was coordinated by Patricia Johnston, Assistant Director of the Manhattan school. Some of the salons at the event were Ricardo Rojas, Regis, Tela Design Studio, Wellingtons Hairspa, Divine Connection Hair Spa, and many more.
One of the salon representatives on hand was Angel Mendez, manager of Tela Designs Studio a high-end salon in Manhattan, and former Empire Beauty School graduate. ‘Tela is one of 14 salons owned by Philip Pelusi and they not only create urban edge hairstyles but have celeb clientele as well as participate in Fashion Week,” noted Johnston.
“Angel is a true success story. I placed him in that job right before he graduated and with hard work and wonderful talent, he is now the Manager of Tela,” added Johnston.
So far, nine of the former graduates have been hired by the salons from the event, once again proving the poor economy hasn’t effected Cosmetologists.
