Indianapolis, Indiana Empire Beauty School Featured in INDY CHANNEL.COM Article: “Beauty School Collects Hair Clippings for Spill Fight”
Empire Beauty School in Indianapolis, Indiana was featured in an INDY CHANNEL.COM article, “Beauty School Collects Hair Clippings for Spill Fight.” The article reported that the Indianapolis Empire Beauty School on East Southport Road helped “an effort to contain the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico by sending hair clippings to a charity.” The charity, Matter of Trust, “organized a nationwide effort to get hair booms to the Gulf Coast” to help contain the spill.
Larry Foster, Academic Director of the Empire Beauty School in Indianapolis, Indiana, said, “It really does work. Your hair is made to absorb oil.” He also said that his Empire Beauty School has worked with the Matter of Trust charity before. “They’ll either send it to a manufacturer so it can be made into a hair mat to soak up oil,” he said. “Or, they’ll make hair booms by putting the hair into recycled hosiery, and they’ll create hair booms with that to soak up the oil.”
Jessica Schoolcraft, a beauty school student at the Indianapolis Empire cosmetology school, “decided to get her hair cut after she found out where it would go.” She said, “I’m very passionate about the environment and the green movement and helping in any way I can.”
