Empire Student Makes Finals in Cosmoprof’s Fashion Frenzy Competition

by Jess Quandel

As a future professional there are so many ways to help broaden your skills as you go through beauty school and even to continue once you graduate. In this industry the learning never stops and you always have to keep up with the new trends. One way to get your name and work out in the eyes of the public, exposure to top salons and opportunities to be mentored by industry icons is by entering competitions. Even if you don’t win in the competitions it still is the exposure and the valuable hours of practicing that will expand your creativity and skill set.

Fashion Frenzy top 6

Jessica Fair, a student at our Empire Beauty School in Whitehall, Pa campus, made it to the Top 6 of Cosmoprof’s annual Fashion Frenzy Competition and we are so proud of her. As one of the six finalists she has won her way to Intercoiffure’s Spring Symposium in Hollywood, Florida where she will work directly with mentor Luis Alvarez, Aquage co-founder, and participate in a photo shoot with NAHA award-winning photographer BABAK.  Jessica will be competing with five other finalists from the United States and Canada for the Grand Prize of a $500 CosmoProf shopping spree and having her winning look featured on the cover of the September CosmoProf Shopping Guide.

Jessica says she started doing hair when she was ten years old and it has always been a passion of hers ever since. “Doing hair is how I let my mind escape and run wild with creativity, this will never be considered a job to me it has always been my greatest love.”

Here is Jessica’s Entry:

About the look: “First I parted the hair into three horizontal sections. I made one part behind the ears straight across and another part in the back of the head straight across. I then took the middle section and split it in half equally, and made two French braids (which you form into a ponytail). I then took a piece of hair from the bottom of the ponytail and wrapped it around to hide the rubber band. With the remaining hair I spiral curled half and pinned it in all different directions. Then, I divided the last three pieces of hair, sprayed them with holding spray, and flat ironed them so they could stand straight out.”
“Then I took the lower section of hair and divided it into two unequal sections. I took the smallest section, which was on the left side of the head, and French braided it up. Then I pinned it to the ponytail leaving the end hanging. I took the rest of the hair and braided it to the right, and rolled it and pinned it to make a flower effect. For the front of the head, I backcombed the middle of the hair. Finally, I made a large twist and pinned the twist portion on the front. Then, I made a braid on the side and wrapped it in the same direction.”

Please help us in wishing Jessica good luck as she competes in the final rounds of the Fashion Frenzy contest!
