Empire Hair and Make Up Shine at New York's Fashion Week

by Empire Beauty School

Fashion Week, held twice a year in New York City, gives clothing designers the opportunity to share their latest collections with throngs of journalists, celebrities and clothing buyers.

And while the clothes are still the main star of the show, I would argue, it’s the make up and hair that pulls the show together.

Empire’s Manhattan Campus was lucky enough to have several students working behind the scenes at some of the shows during Fashion Week.

What an amazing experience for our students!  The chance to work on these models gives them a taste of the fast paced, cut throat world of fashion, as they decide which direction to take their budding beauty careers.

“Working Fashion Week with Raul P was an amazing experience.” says Sharon Robles, a recent Empire graduate.  “I hope it’s just the beginning and I get to work with them again.”

As I look through the fashions presented for Spring 2011, I notice a major emphasis on dramatic make up.  Super bright colors on lips and eyes are everywhere this spring!

Will these trends find their way on to the faces of middle America?  Only time will tell how they catch on, but I would bet we will see strong, bright eyeshadow making its way onto familiar lids by summer, leaving Americans wondering “How do I apply this without looking like a circus clown?”

This is where make up training is most valuable.  What I love about our curriculum at Empire is its focus on the total package.  Yes, we have a make up specific curriculum in New York City, but we also teach make up techniques in every single one of our 100 plus schools.

This provides our graduates with a well rounded education, leaving them to decided if they want to pursue a career exclusively in make up, exclusively in hair,  or if they want to do both!

The fashion industry relies on creative hair and make up artists to bring their creations to life.  I am so proud to know our students and graduates provide that vital support to the industry!
