Empire Educator: On a Rock Star Tour
A couple years ago I returned to our home office after working in the schools for several years. I love what I do each day for Empire but I miss being in our beauty schools interacting with students and especially the great faculty. This is why I am always honored to spend any time with the team that I can. Three weeks ago (I know I’m late writing this!) I was at the Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administrators (or PAPSA for short) annual conference. This is a state association that Empire Education Group belongs to. Every year at this conference PAPSA awards an educator of the year from Pennsylvania career schools. This year I’m proud to be writing that the recipient of this award is Celina Good from the Wyoming Valley Empire Beauty School in Moosic, PA!
I got to have a dinner and a lunch with Celina and Joan (the Executive Director at Celina’s school). This year the conference was held at the Sheraton Four Points in Cranberry, Pennsylvania (just north of Pittsburgh and pretty close to the Empire Beauty School in North Hills, PA). During these meals I learned a lot about this educator and was blown away by her passion for the industry. Also, I was amazed at how much she does and how involved she is with the beauty industry. She just recently accepted the position of Senior Editor of “Salon Confidential Magazine”, where she has been the acting Contributing Editor at Large for over a year, now. She monitors & edits the magazine’s blog submissions, answers industry related questions, recruits writers & bloggers and also plans and coordinates design layouts, upcoming articles and photography sessions. Celina is also a Hair Removal Specialist and Hair Stylist at a salon in Olyphant, PA – Shiloh Salon & Day Spa. As our conversation continued Celina talked about a new Salon adventure…an upcoming salon project…TRUE. She intends to create TRUE as a reflection of her commitment to continuing education in cosmetology. Celina says she hopes to establish and have TRUE be an Arrojo Ambassador Salon but right now her goal is to continue her search to find the right location for TRUE. Celina also continues to be an inspiration to students at Empire as a Student Educator Trainer and Student Salon Team Leader. She does all this and balances time with her family as a wife, mother of 3 and volunteer for Elementary PTA, Soccer & Baseball Clinics and Boy & Girl Scout events. Celina says, “Lots to do, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!”
The best part about this story was that the day after she got back from the PAPSA conference in Pittsburgh she was leaving for Orlando! Why was Celina headed to Orlando you ask? It is because she won Empire Education Group’s “Regional Educator of the Year” award and all regional educators are sent on an all expense paid trip to Orlando as thanks from EEG. I was joking with Celina that it was like she was the rock star on tour!
Celina is always writing blogs so I figured she deserved to have something written on her. Her passion is huge and her attitude is contagious. It amazed me how involved she is in the beauty industry and it is something I’m sure her students are picking up on as well.
Congratulations Celina you deserve it!
