Empire Beauty School in Bangor, Maine was featured in the WABI TV5 report, “Salons Work to ‘Cut Out’ Domestic Abuse.”  In the report, Meghan Hayward said that the cosmetology school students at Empire Beauty School in Bangor are “helping to raise money for domestic abuse awareness.” The report says that “A five dollar haircut at Empire Beauty School is going a long way” because “One-hundred percent of the proceeds” from the haircuts provided on the beauty school’s “national day of beauty will go toward” Empire Education Group’s Cut It Out program devoted to raising awareness and preventing domestic abuse.

Amy Guiggey is the Admissions Specialist at the Bangor Empire Beauty School in the Broadway Shopping Center. She said that the funds raised by the cosmetology school students would go to Spruce Run and local shelters and that the Empire Beauty School in Bangor has a close relationship with Spruce Run. She said that, “this week we had Spruce Run here and they were helping to educate our beauty school students in the area of domestic violence.” According to WABI TV5, Guiggey said that “the beauty industry can be very personal” and beauty salon professionals “often have one-on-one time with your clients” and often detect or learn about incidents of domestic abuse and know how to report them properly.

The WABI TV5 report said that “Spruce Run offers 24-hour hotline services, emergency shelter, transitional housing, support and curriculum groups, and advocacy to victims of intimate partner violence.”
