Each year the Arlington Heights, IL, Empire Beauty School hosts a dedicated day of beauty services for students from three area high schools to help them get ready for the Special Needs Prom. The prom-goers enjoyed some well-deserved pampering and styling thanks to the Arlington Heights students.
The Arlington Heights students gave the young ladies manicures, up-dos and applied their make-up, as well as manicures and haircuts for the young gentlemen.
The high school students later sent thank you cards to their stylists at the Arlington Heights school. Executive Directory Valerie Dick noted the memorable cards, “I sate at my desk and reflected on how happy I was that I had the opportunity to service these special children. My student had the opportunity to make them feel beautiful on the outside, to match how beautiful they are on the inside.”
The Arlington Heights staff and students all agreed that the thank you cards should have been, “The other way around. We are thankful to them for the opportunity to improve their life and to help each and every one of us remember how wonderful it is to touch someone’s life,” said Valerie.
“Seeing the smiles, getting the hugs and then receiving these thank you cards shows our students the power that a cosmetologist has in her/his hands every day. As it has been said, we touch people, we have the power to change people’s lives one style at a time,” she noted.
