Every career has its challenges. But imagine cutting the stress out of work everyday, simply by enjoying what you do.
In a new report by CareerCast.com, Hair Stylist ranks number 1 on the list of Least Stressful Jobs of 2015. Why? It’s simple really. Cosmetology is a career in which you help others. By working one on one with clients you are improving their self esteem, which in turn, boosts yours. Also, many stylists can work flexible schedules, instead of one set by someone else.
In the report, CareerCast.com ranked various careers on a stress scale of 1 through 100. Hair Stylist came in with a job rated stress score of 5.47.
Other careers scoring low on stress are Medical Records Technician, Librarian and Jeweler.
Of course, no job is completely free of stress. In the beauty industry, owning your own business is hard work. And even if you are employed by a salon, unhappy clients and schedules can lead to stressful times.
However, generally speaking, it’s no surprise careers that involve risk lead the pack in terms of stress level.
At the top of the list of Most Stressful Jobs of 2015 is Firefighter. Enlisted Military Personnel and Police Officer also rank high on the stress scale.
Working in a low stress field certainly has its benefits. According to the American Institute of Stress, 1 in 5 Americans experience “Extreme Stress” which includes shaking, heart palpitations and depression. More specifically, work stress causes an estimated 10 percent of all strokes.
According to the AIS, stress increases your risk of heart disease by 40% and your risk of stroke by 50%.
It’s an epidemic in the U.S. that accounts for 3 out of every 4 doctor visits.
The bottom line? Less stress is a good thing. And loving what you do for a living certainly helps avoided un-needed worry and angst.
