6 Things Really Great Stylists Do
1. Listen
This may seem obvious, but sometimes we need to be reminded that hearing is not the same as listening. Make sure you understand and discuss your Guest’s needs. After clearly understanding your Guest’s needs, be ready to help them select products and services to become the most beautiful person they can be.
2. Grow
Keeping up on the new fashions, trends and styles must be a priority for any stylist to stay in the game. Fashions change with the wind. Reading style blogs, trend magazines and attending trade shows are all ways to stay sharp and current so your Guests return for the latest styles.
3. Educate
Use your expertise to educate. Learn to fulfill your Guest’s needs by giving them tips and tricks to solve their most frustrating beauty issues. Education about products and styles increases loyalty and trust.
4. Retail
A benefit to your Guests is to recommend professional products that will help them maintain their new style. Retailing also will help you to communicate with your Guests, solver their hair, skin or nail issues —and in return help you boost your income. It’s a win—win for everyone.
5. Rebook
Increase your earnings by encouraging your Guests to rebook. During the consultation explain exactly what it will take to maintain the style and how often they will need to return. As you are finishing the style, ask your Guest to return and as they check out, help them to rebook.
6. Dream
As edgy pop singer Lorde sings, “we’re driving Cadillacs in our dreams,” but you could be driving one in reality. Create a list of both small and large goals for your future, check in and adjust this list often to realign yourself and stay on your path. Do you dream of owning a salon? Being a celebrity stylist? Doing makeup for the stars? Dare to dream big and never settle for less.
