3 Makeup Mistakes You Probably Made This Morning

by Katie Schenk

Not getting the response you usually get when you walk into a room? Did you ever think of your makeup? We know mornings can be brutal – you’ve got a lot to do in a very short space of time. And you just can’t skip breakfast (again),right?

But, you don’t need a morning crisis to make mistakes with your makeup. Ladies tend to make these mistakes all the time. Are you guilty, too?

You Dove Headfirst into Foundation

Your skin seems soft and supple, but it’s not prepared to do battle with the drying effects of your foundation or the harmful rays of the sun without some help. Whether you have oily skin, dry skin, or you’re one of the fortunate gals that have it all under control, you CANNOT reach for your bottle of foundation first.

If you have oily skin, you will need to add a primer and perhaps add a bit of powder before you open your foundation. If you don’t, you’ll appear sweaty for the whole day. Everyone needs to apply a light barrier of sun protection. In addition to adding SPF, ladies with dry skin also need to moisturize.

You Didn’t Consider the Effect of Your Brushes

It’s ever so kind for makeup manufacturers to provide you with applicators… or not. These may be the cheapest way to apply makeup, but they will never do a good job. If you used a disposable applicator this morning, invest in some brushes.

As any makeup artist knows, you need quality brushes to achieve a quality effect. Always choose brushes with some texture; flat brushes don’t get the job done. And these need to be washed properly at least once a week. They become ineffective when clogged or dirty.

You Put on the Same Face You Always Wear

Remember when you achieved the perfect look? Six months ago? Still using it? This is a mistake that too many women make. Your skin tone changes with the season and you need a new foundation to match. That pink blush doesn’t look healthy in late autumn. And, worst of all, you’re likely to use a heavy hand when you’re replicating the same look you always do. Make sure you change the colors, if not the way you highlight different areas of your face.

Finally, don’t forget to toss your old makeup when it no longer works for you. It does become cakey and toxic, and that certainly won’t help you look your best tomorrow morning.
