Stay Beautiful this Winter

by Megan Murray

January can leave you looking, and feeling, a little dull.  Over indulgence, harsh weather, and cold and flu season can wreak havoc with your beauty routine.  You may feel down due to the short days, and unpredictable weather. Luckily, you can combat those winter blues, and make sure your glow lasts year round.

Here are some beauty tips and tricks to help you look your best, while feeling your worst:

Drink your water:

It’s easy to drink water during the warm weather.  When the temperature rises your body craves a cool, refreshing drink.  When the weather outside is frightful, it seems a hot coffee or tea is in order. Unfortunately, this is the time when you need water the most.  In fact, you need extra hydration to keep your body well and your face pretty!

Moisturize:

In the winter, there is not a lot of moisture in the air, and exposure to home heating makes skin dull and dry. Also, a lot of medication used to combat the symptoms of cold and flu dry out skin. Moisturize every part of your body, every day. Just make sure you speak with a beauty professional about what moisturizer is right for your skin type.  (Yes, even oily skin needs to moisturize!)  Remember- your body, face, and under eye all have different moisturizing needs.  So get skin-care advice from the experts, and slather it on this season!

Exfoliate

Your skin is your body’s largest organ. When your insides don’t feel well, your skin shows it. You need to combat flakiness with gentle exfoliation. Exfoliation helps stimulate circulation, remove dry dead skin, and help moisturizer work better. Again, you should consult a beauty professional about the right exfoliant for your skin. What works well for dry skin, could cause oily skin to break out.

Protect your lips

You lose up to 10 times more moisture through your lips than anywhere else; make sure they are protected with a good lip balm before you leave the house.  So many of the newest formulations of lipstick have built-in treatment, so now would be a great time to try a lip-focused look.

Navy Eyeliner

When your eyes are tired and red, navy eyeliner can make you look like you are bright and well rested. For the color phobic, dark navy looks very close to black, but will still brighten the whites of your eyes.

Blush

Your skin needs more color when the temperatures fall, and you should always opt for pinker tones.  Pink is the color of health and wellness, and a pop of a pink in a color that is right for your complexion can give your face a lift.

Champagne eye shimmer

When you are too tired or cold to try, this cosmetic powerhouse can make you look good in no time flat. A swipe on your lid, over your brow bone, in the corners of your eyes, and on the tops of your cheekbones can give you a brighter, more rested look.  Champagne has warmth that helps neutralize dark circles, and gives your face a little touch of sun.

Now is not the time to hibernate, now is the time to radiate! Make sure your body gets enough rest, good nutrition with lots of Vitamin D, and make sure to get enough exercise, even if you feel like pulling a blanket over your head until April. Now is not the time to hibernate, now is the time to radiate!
