These may sound familiar: “I have no time to try new styles and techniques.” “It costs too much money for salon color and products.” And the ever-popular “I really don’t know what to do to my hair” as you keep the same old boring hairstyle for years or sport a perpetual ponytail.
To overcome these habits and “break bad” in a good way, here are some cures for the beauty blues:
Bad Hair Habit #1: Cutting your own hair.
It sounded like a good idea at the time, but… yikes! Crooked bangs anyone? This is usually a move done out of frustration, when you just can’t take it anymore. But really, have you ever been happy when you did this? It may buy you some time, but it won’t bring you beauty.
You’ll spend more time getting it fixed at a salon, so just go there in the first place! Trained cosmetologists cut hair with precision and have top notch tools for your tresses.
Bad Hair Habit #2: Coloring your own hair.
There’s a good reason that hairstylists are taught chemistry in beauty school. It’s a science, one you don’t want to experiment with on your head. Trust the stylist to choose your best hair color.You may save money with the store-bought color, but are orange highlights or uneven shades really the look you’ve been longing for? Probably not! Bad Hair Habit #3: Buying the wrong hairstyling products.
Lower prices sometimes lure you to choose products that seemingly will do the job, but many contain harsh ingredients that can eventually ruin your hair. Sure, you spend less, but at the cost of unruly locks and later spending more on damage control. Buying lots of conditioner and having the salon repair your hair is not cost-effective.
It’s better to budget wisely and the salon splurge won’t break the bank. Good quality shampoo and styling products actually last longer because you only need to use a small amount for head-turning results. Talk to your stylist for recommendations on what works best with your hair type as well as what’s on sale.
Bad Hair Habit #4: You get too comfortable with an old hairstyle.
It’s hard to change something that’s become routine and well, easy. Change requires risk and work and “oh my, that’s just too much stress”, you say as you reach yet again for the ponytail holder.
Bet your stylist has been hoping you take that leap of faith toward a new look for some time now, right? Well, jump on board and try something new! Most cosmetologists really want you to look fantastic. You are a walking billboard of their work, so they would never suggest a cut or color that makes you look bad.
