Snowy Weather Doesn’t Stop Mom Event in Memphis
The Memphis/Colonial Empire Beauty School in Tennessee, didn’t let a few snowflakes get in the way of their Celebrating Mom open house event.
Local mothers continued to venture out in the snow to let their daughters, students at the school, pamper them with relaxing beauty services.
Lisa Allen from JAVA House, the school’s local shelter they adopted in order to donate funds to, was present at the event to accept the school’s donation.
“The check presentation to JAVA House was excellent and the students were proud of the donation we made. They came up and thanked Lisa Allen from JAVA House for all this organization does for the community,” said Executive Director of the school Connie Taylor.
Allen explained to the students how the advocates at JAVA House operate, how they go in and help the police get victims out of a dangerous situation to a safe place, and how they help find legal protection if needed. She explained that every donation no matter the size helps. It might buy gas, diapers or a pair of shoes. Lisa works with educating police officers in handling victims of domestic violence. Allen hopes to continue meeting the students and speaking to them about recognizing the signs of abuse and what actions to take.
“The students enjoyed the day and were very inspired by the work JAVA HOUSE provides,” added Taylor who also noted the school already accepted eight new and enrolling students at the beauty school.
