ne-philadelphia-donateWomen Against Domestic Violence accepted a check in the amount of $2,540 from the students and staff of the Empire Beauty School in Northeast Philadelphia.  The domestic abuse shelter was appreciative and explained to the students how the donation will help the residents at the shelter.

The school celebrated their 100 Days of Empire with the theme “We’re having a party, come on in!” The Student Salon was busy with clients throughout the day. Guests were also treated to refreshments and activities, as well as tours of the school.

The students also hosted a fashion show with their own Wendy Williams celeb look-alike judge. All the students dressed up as a celebrity of their choice with a total look of hair, makeup and fashion but they also had to do their research–before students could walk down the red carpet as a celebrity, they had to provide “Wendy” with some interesting information about the celebrity they looked like.  Some of the celebrities were, Katy Perry, Marilyn Monroe, Sean Paul, Beyonce, Tyra Banks, Rihanna, and Halle Berry. Music would play from the celebrity the students portrayed as they walked down the red carpet and some of the students danced and sang to the songs. When the student was done walking the red carpet, their “stylist”, also a student came and described what techniques were done to the “celebrity’s” hair.

There was also a mannequin completion competition called Hair Around the World. The senior students were put into seven groups and chose one of seven global regions to portray their mannequin from: India, South America, Antarctica, North America, Australia, Africa, and Asia. The guests were the judges and the winners received bonus prizes.
