Hair Trend Alert: Spring 2013

by Empire Beauty School

I am sure you are all still crafting your Halloween look and picking out the perfect red lip for the holidays. Sorry to distract you, but the Spring 2013 hair trends are knocking on your door.

Bed Head

Spring Hair Trend - bed headApparently, for 2013, all you need to be in fashion is an alarm clock that doesn’t work. The runways were packed with models who looked like they just didn’t have enough energy to do their hair. Some designers called it, “Bed Head,” others called it ” Urban Casual.” I call it, ” you have GOT to be kidding me.”

It’s not that I don’t appreciate a trend where l would look perfectly acceptable in public at 4 am before my cup of coffee, I just wonder how this trend will be translated on the street. These runway looks, although they look low maintenece, have been coiffed by some of the best in the business to look intentionally let go.

Exaggerated PartsSpring Hair Trend - Exaggerated Parts

For someone with a dorky natural part like me, the revival of the center part was a blessing. I would coax my hair into a chic side part, and by the time I walked out the door…you guessed it, straight down the middle.  Of course for those who are center-averse, deep side parts were also shown in a lot of shows. Each of these parts were shown with a variety of textures, but it seems loose and wavy and naturally straight were represented the most.

Crimped Hair

Spring Hair Trend - Crimped HairIn my opinion, one of the most breathtaking looks I have seen is the micro crimp interwoved with natural texture. The looks is more Downton Abbey and less Downtown LA 1987. I cannot wait to see how our Empire Future Professionals translate this look!

Candy Colored HairSpring Hair Trend- Candy Colored Hair

Yes! This look is not going away anytime soon and I couldn’t be more thrilled! Pastel pinks and blues as well as candy colored aquas are showing up everywhere.

Bobby Pins

Spring Hair Trend - Bobby PinsSo, all that time you took perfecting hiding your bobby pins? In Spring 2013, you may not have to worry about that anymore. Very obvious bobby pins showed up in the NOT BY Jenny Lai show at NY Fashion week, and were immediatly touted as ” Must Wear.” This look is interesting because the bobby pins are used en masse to create a hair accessory, rather than just randomly sticking out of your head.

So, which Spring ’13 trend gets you excited?
