Tip #1: Stay Focused on your Goal
If you really want to make a career out of this then you need to be dedicated and focused on your dream. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Tip #2: Work Hard in Beauty School
While in beauty school make sure you work hard, have good attendance, participate in competitions/contests, ask lots of questions and strive to do your best maybe even shoot for student of the month. Plus, take full advantage of all the education provided but most of all practice, practice and practice. Ask your family, friends and relatives to let you show them what you have learned.
Tip #3: Visit Local Salons
As you get closer to graduation, you will want to start checking out different salons in your area. Start putting your name out there and marketing yourself. Maybe you can even get a part-time job as a receptionist, clean-up person or even assist a stylist in a salon -this will give you some great in-salon experience and help you develope your skills.
Tip #4: Utilize your Beauty School’s Resources
If your beauty school has connections with manufacturers, top salons, industry professionals or offers job placement utilize those resources. Tip #5: Stay Connected with Your Beauty School
As you graduate Beauty School stay connected with your former beauty school – whether it be on their mailing list, e-mail list, Facebook page etc. They will be able to keep you updated of advanced education classes, programs, contests, prepare you for state boards and job opportunites.
Tip #6: Prepare for Cosmetology State Boards Exam
Make sure you give yourself enough time to prepare for your state boards exam. If you need a refresher coarse contact your school and they will be able to help you. There are kits available online that will have everything you need for your state board exam. Do your homework!
Tip #7: Stay up on the Trends
Finally, never think you have learned it all. In this industry trends and techniques are always changing and you have to be on top of it. Attend as many advanced educational classes as you can. Nobody wants to go to a hairstylist who is behind the times.
