This winter has been brutal, and everyone is ready for spring. While we are all ready for warmer days, beauty professionals need to be looking towards the future. Fall 2014 should be on everyone’s mind.
February brings the Mercedes Benz NY Fashion Week, and the trend makers were out in force. Fall is all about drama and cutting edge looks, and this year’s offerings did not disappoint.
Here are some of the hottest hair and make-up on the runways:
Statement Eyes:
After a few years dominated by the strong lip, we are seeing a return to eye-impact. Anna Sui showed us a blue and green jewel-toned eye with plenty of eyeliner, and Marc Jacobs had a return to kholed eyeliner (dark, all the way around and smudgy). Mara Hoffman took it a step forward with an ultra-graphic cat eye, and Nicole Miller showed us a smoky up to the eyebrow look.
All or Nothing Eyebrows:
Bold brows continued to dominate the scene, but bleached eyebrows are making an appearance. This look is sure to be controversial, but it does have a surprising brightening effect.
Stained Lips:
Darker colors are not going anywhere soon, but the application is changing. A stained, almost uneven, berry look will be on everyone’s lips this fall.
Of course, with the resurgence of statement eye make-up, we will also see the return of the nude lips. Nude lips looked especially feminine and fashion forward paired with the must-have wash of silver eye shadow.
Pastel Blondes:
It seems as soon as Marc Jacobs’ pastel blondes hit the runways, the trend exploded. Pearly beiges are bound to be the new Ombre!
Sleek, Sleek, Sleek:
Sleek bangs and ponytails made a strong comeback. Heat up those flatirons- structured hairstyles will be big for the fall.
Nude and Gold Nails:
This look is going to dominate the nail scene. A pinky-nude nail with lady-like gold accent is creative, yet safe enough for everyone to wear. The look can be as feminine as a simple french-manicure or as edgy as a golden half-moon.
Of course, just like every year, there were designers who showed a fresh, natural, no-make-up look that was created with lotions, potions, powders, and really great genetics. If you have the cheekbones of Karlie Kloss or the skin of Lupita Nyong’ o…have at it! For the rest of us mere mortals, it looks like another season of rich color!
So what is your favorite look for fall 2014? Are you going to attempt statement eye-liner? Why do the models all look so sad?
