Do you have natural curly hair? Have you ever been envious of those commercials for shampoo and hair color that shows the models hair so perfectly defined, no frizz and no flyways to be seen? I know I have. Curly hair tends to be more dry and brittle than straight hair and can frizz very easily which means in order to keep the frizz away and keep the curls bouncy you need to properly care for your curly hair.
Tip #1
Limit shampooing your hair. If your hair is thick and coarse you should only need to shampoo your hair no more than twice a week. If you have thin and fine hair you may need to go every other day. Shampooing strips the natural oils from your hair and you need those natural oils to help keep the moisture in your hair and on your scalp. When shampooing your hair use a gentle shampoo that is sulfate free and one that is recommended for curly hair. DevaCurl is a good one to use.
Tip #2
Condition your hair. This is very important when you have curly hair. Curly hair, especially frizzy curly hair, can use all the moisture it can get. After shampooing the hair apply a heavy conditioner. While the conditioner is in your hair use a wide tooth comb to detangle your hair, starting at the ends and working your way up to the roots. Concentrate on one tangle at a time. You want to get all the tangles out of your hair while it is wet, detangling the hair when it is dry will cause your hair to frizz. Try and use a deep conditioning treatment on your hair once a week to help re-moisturize your hair and scalp.
Tip #3
After washing your hair do not rub the towel over your hair, this will cause your hair to become frizzy and also damage your hair. Blot with the towel to remove the excess water so all the curls stay in tact.
Tip #4
To help lock in the moisture apply a leave in conditioner and comb it through using a wide tooth comb.
Tip #5
Enhance your curls by applying a styling cream. It is also best to combine a serum with the styling cream to help eliminate the frizz. Moroccanoil treatment and curling cream are really good recommended products.
Tip #6
Let your curly hair air dry. If you don’t have time and must speed up the drying time use a diffuser and hold it under the hair cupping it. Do not scrunch the hair this will break up the curls and cause frizz.
Tip #7
Avoid touching or playing with your set curls. The more you touch the more frizzy and undefined they become.
