The Beauty of Short

by Megan Murray

It seems that Hollywood got a little “choppy” this week. Renaissance women, such as Jennifer Hudson, Kristin Chenoweth and most recent Jennifer Lawrence decided that a chic, shorter look would be perfect to add to their repertoire.  A pixie makes sense for these fashion-forward, award-winning actress/singer/spokeswomen.

One cut, however, sent shock waves through the online beauty communities. Pamela Anderson, the quintessential blonde bombshell, cut her hair into an amazingly sophisticated pixie cut. I think every stylist in the country should send Pamela a thank you note. Her new look proves everything that people in the beauty industry have always said about a good haircut. She looks softer, younger, and incredibly elegant.

The short, croppy chop is easy to style, and it could shave close to an hour off of a morning routine. Yet, this is not a low-maintenance look. Special care has to be given to make-up.

Here are some great make-up tips for a shorter cut:

Lips

Ethereal

Start with a Good Foundation: Long hair is a good distraction for imperfections. A short cut demands great looking skin. The right foundation is important.

Add a Little Contour: Show off your bone structure with the help of a little light and shadow. Highlighter on the top of your cheekbones, and a slightly darker color to sculpt your jawline will take your look to the next level.

Focus on the Eyes: Short hair puts eyes in the spotlight. Eyebrows must be groomed, and mascara is as important as oxygen! Shorter hair also lends itself well to edgier eye looks. Dramatic cat eyes or super smudgy eye shadows, which are usually saved for evenings, are perfect matches for a pixie any time of day. Of course, if you want to take your look to an iconic level, Twiggy’s fake lash look is the definition of close-cut style.

Let the Lips Steal the Show: Edgy looks work for lips as well. Minimal make-up with a dramatic lip is the perfect accessory for shorter hair.

Go Soft and Ethereal: The haircut is called a pixie for a reason. Flushed cheeks, long lashes, pink, glossy lips, and a touch of shimmer is the perfect casual look. It can also magically erase years!
