LINCOLNSHIRE, IL—MODERN SALON Media has named the 2011 class of “Excellence in Education” honorees in its annual program recognizing leadership and best practices among cosmetology schools. EMPIRE EDUCATION GROUP was chosen to represent excellence in the category of Advanced Education/Alumni Programs. MODERN SALON Publisher Steve Reiss and MODERN SALON’s First Chair Editor Alison Shipley announced the class of schools during the AACS (American Association of Cosmetology Schools) fall 2011 convention in Phoenix.
Hundreds of entries were submitted from cosmetology schools from across North America, in eight categories ranging from marketing to placement to school culture. Finalists were determined in four classes based on school size or number of locations, with one overall honoree from all applicants named for each category.
“Based on the volume and caliber of entries received, it is clear there are many wonderful schools doing amazing things to secure a beautiful future for the professional beauty industry,” said Associate Publisher Michele Musgrove. “We will be showcasing many of the applicants’ stories, accomplishments and best practices in our magazines, web sites and e-letters.”
Empire took Overall Honoree in the Advanced Education/Alumni Programs category for its Masters of Beauty Skills Certification Program. This is the second year Empire has won top honors in this division. Masters of Beauty is a travelling advanced education program providing hands-on, non-product specific training to professionals and students across the country.
Empire was also honored in the Technology category for its use of the exclusive CLiC learning system, and smart board technology.
Empire Beauty School’s Manhattan campus was recognized in the School Culture category, for its work in bringing students together for a common cause.
Sharing stories of innovation, inspiration and collaboration from a diverse group of leading schools is an important part of MODERN SALON’s “Excellence in Education” mission, Musgrove explained. “We want to help spread the word about the exceptional work cosmetology schools are doing to help launch beautiful careers. Small schools, large schools, chain schools and single units of chain schools are all represented. We hope the professional salon industry will join us in celebrating them, and will help us grow and evolve the “Excellence in Education” program for 2012.”
