Rebecca Tira, a graduate of Empire Beauty School in Shamokin Dam, PA, has opened her salon, dedicated to fostering an encouraging and uplifting environment for both clients and employees. Tira graduated from beauty school in 2019 and is now the proud owner of Bec’s Beauty Co. in Williamsport, PA.

Bec’s Beauty Co. is a full-service salon and spa, with a focus on a positive atmosphere. Tira was one of the few who didn’t have a lifelong dream of opening a salon. However, it was her working experience that led her to this decision.

I never wanted to have my own salon, which is kind of crazy. Even when I was in beauty school, I was one of the few who did not want my own salon. The past 2 years, I started thinking about it because I was working for someone else and seeing a smaller income from that. It was still beneficial because I was in this field to make someone feel better, not for the money. Every salon is different. I wanted a place that was a good environment for clients and their employees. A place for employees to not feel pressure to have back-to-back clients, they can have time in between. A place for encouragement and building each other up.

Through a genuine love for hands-on work and the joy of making others feel beautiful, Tira’s path to success unfolds as a pathway of inspiration.

I always wanted to get into cosmetology since I was a young teenager. It was something I enjoyed doing. I do better working hands-on, so I knew this was the route for me. It’s rewarding to make people feel good.  Especially people who come in having a bad day and see them leave with a smile on their face. It changes how you feel, it’s super rewarding.

Tira appreciated her foundation from Empire Beauty School and those who made the experience so memorable. At Empire, we work with each student individually to ensure you’re on the path to success.

It was a good experience, I really enjoyed my time at Empire. I had great educators and made lifelong friends. I wouldn’t want to do it any other way. Morgan Nelling was my instructor and she went above and beyond teaching. She cared for every student, every individual. You felt like you were more than just a student. I definitely won’t forget that.

Morgan Nelling, Executive Director Empire Beauty School Shamokin Dam, PA, watched Tira grow throughout her beauty career. She even had the opportunity to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the salon.

While Becca was in school, I moved from pre-salon educator to the salon floor educator and was her educator almost the entire time she was here. Becca has a heart of gold and is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. I knew from the start that she would excel in this career when she started, not only because of her talent but because of her personality. She’s definitely a student who I will never forget. It was really exciting for me to see on Facebook that she was opening her own business, and I of course reacted to the posts and even shared a couple for her which is rare for me. Then she reached out and asked if I would be there for her ribbon-cutting ceremony and I knew that I needed and more importantly, wanted to be there for her. I’m super grateful to be able to continue to watch her grow into a new boss and business owner with her husband. I’m excited to watch her business grow and I believe she deserves the absolute best! -Morgan Nelling

Navigating the unknown is challenging in itself. Whether you are at the beginning of your beauty journey, or looking for a change, Tira shares her advice.

If I could go back in time, I would make more of the time I had at Empire. I think when it comes to schooling, there are times when you drag your feet. I would make even more of the time I had there, and enjoy every moment of it. No matter how old you are or how many years you have in the industry, you can always learn something from someone. When I graduated school and had my first job, I told my boss “That’s not how my educator taught me.” She told me something that I will never forget, which was “In this industry, you will always learn something from somebody. No one is doing it the wrong way, it is a different way to the same result.” You can learn from anyone, older or younger.

Rebecca, congratulations on the opening of Bec’s Beauty Co. We are unbelievably proud of you and the change you are making in the beauty industry.
